Georges cuts laundry route planning time by 6x with Kardinal

Specialist in industrial laundry for professional workwear and PPE, Georges optimises the planning of its 120 weekly routes with Kardinal. Discover the feedback from Georges’ teams on the implementation of the Kardinal project and its day-to-day benefits.

The time spent on planning has been divided by six. And honestly, on some sites, the gains are even greater.

120 weekly routes optimised across 10 sites

1 00% of routes compliant with the 10-hour daily driving regulation

4,500 delivery points served across France every week

Pre-project overview

As Georges grew, logistical complexity exploded. Each client comes with its own constraints: strict delivery windows, specific site access requirements, shift change schedules in round-the-clock factories, variable volumes from one week to the next.

On top of that, a non-negotiable regulatory constraint: the 10-hour maximum working day per driver, impossible to guarantee without a tool that factors it in from the very start of route construction.

We couldn't keep pace with our growth using such manual ways of working. We urgently needed a partner to help us industrialise our processes.

All planning was done by hand, using Excel files and Google Maps. For a single site, covering 15 to 20 weekly routes, this could take up to three cumulative working days, with no global visibility and no ability to reorganise quickly.

The solution

Why Kardinal?

After benchmarking several solutions on the market, Georges chose Kardinal for its ability to accurately model real operational constraints: driver accreditations, on-site service times, toll costs, and access restrictions flagged by field teams.

Kardinal was the solution that best met our operational constraints. Whenever I have a specific request, the teams always respond very quickly.

The rollout was designed to be simple and gradual. Working from Georges’ data, the Kardinal team defined a model tailored to the business in one to two weeks, delivered as a structured Excel file that the planner updates daily. A one-to-two-hour training session was all it took to get up and running.

Go-live was reached in under a month. Since then, new requirements have been integrated on an ongoing basis: toll management, avoiding the Gironde ferry, and accounting for individual driver constraints. An iterative approach that allows Georges to build expertise progressively, with no disruption to field operations.

The benefits

From day one, the results were immediate. What used to take three working days now takes half a day, cutting planning time by a factor of six.

Today, 100% of routes generated comply with the legal 10-hour daily working limit. Routes are now balanced in volume and mileage, no more situations where one driver covers 600 kilometres while a colleague does 100, or handles 1,000 garments while another manages 200.

With Kardinal, I can smooth out activity across the entire week, not just for drivers, but also for the production teams who handle the laundry. There's a double benefit, both in delivery and in production.

Kardinal also supports Georges through its growth. For the opening of the Clermont-Ferrand site, the teams were able to size the fleet and staffing needs, and model the transfer of Auvergne routes from the Lyon site in under 20 minutes. The next steps (multi-day route management, CO2 emissions tracking, and multi-stop routing) are already being rolled out with the Kardinal teams.

Kardinal has truly become a genuine development partner for Georges.
